I don't think that their temperament aligns with that of Bryan. I will simply repeat the message that he is a radical.
- Will you send campaigners to Nebraska, in an attempt to deliver an embarrassing defeat to Bryan, or should those resources be focused on South Dakota, Wyoming, and Iowa?That's not a good idea. Let's be realistic and devote our efforts to the states that matter.

Do you think this kind of religious imagery is appropriate for a presidential candidate?If this story is true, I would consider it to be a blasphemous appropriation of religious symbolism.

Every state is important, but where will you give an extra push with what is left of your financial resources to educate the American voters?Let's take the fight to Bryan. I want us to be campaigning the hardest in Missouri, Nebraska, Kansas, and Iowa. Our extra cash will ensure a landslide on election night.

Was this an overreach on his part?Governor Altgeld was working to mediate the dispute between the Pullman Company and the strikers when Cleveland interfered. There should have absolutely been more time given for these sides to reach an accommodation.
- What is your opinion on measures that would aim to restrict the sale or production of alcohol?These measures are a step in the right direction. Nothing destroys so many lives in this country as does the pernicious habit of drinking alcohol.
- What do you have to say about the efforts of the "Sugar Trust" to shield itself from the effects of the Wilson-Gorman Tariff Act?In certain areas we should be open to higher than average tariffs. The sugar industry is a valued part of our American system.
- A few western states have allowed women the right to vote. Do you take the calls for a women's suffrage Amendment seriously?I think there are more important issues for us to be focusing our efforts on. Extending the suffrage to women carries with it a whole host of dangers.
- Would you support a program to compensate workers who are injured on the job? Is this a proper responsibility of the federal government?This is more properly a state responsibility. It is outside the scope of the federal government to regulate working conditions in this manner.
- Some labor leaders have called for regulation standardizing a ten or even an eight hour workday. Do you support these calls?I am a strong supporter of labor, but I also think that working hour restrictions are more appropriate for women and children than for grown men.
- Do you agree with the Supreme Court's ruling in Plessy v. Ferguson that separate accommodations for the races can be legally required by certain states?The Court has returned a number of terrible decisions in recent years, but this is not one of them. It is reasonable to expect that different groups will prefer separate accommodations, which by law must be of equal quality.
- Do you think that the United States Navy is large enough to adequately defend American interests on a global level?The Navy is more than adequate to meet our current needs, and will remain so as long as imperialist Republicans avoid intervening in Cuba or Hawaii.

- Do you approve of Grover Cleveland's handing of the federal budget over the previous four years?I will stand up for Grover Cleveland for the rest of my life. I believe that he is a great man whom our history will greatly vindicate.
- Are you pleased with the recent defeat in Congress of the Pacific Railroad Funding Bill, which would have provided federal support to the Southern and Central Pacific railroads.It is my firm position that we need to nationalize the railroads of this country. Their power has stood beyond reproach for too long.
- Will you press for your party to include a condemnation of lynching in the party platform?This has no hope of becoming law, but we have to include the plank in order to appease the southern delegates who secured my nomination.
