- What message will you emphasize as you accept your party's nomination for President of the United States?We've had a terrific President in Barack Obama for the last eight years. I will do everything in my power to defend his policies from attack.
- Will you give Bernie Sanders a prime speaking slot at the Democratic Convention?Let's give the keynote address to Elizabeth Warren. Mr. Sanders will speak as well, but I think emphasizing Ms. Warren will be a good middle-ground.
- Barack Obama is looking to you for pointers on the content of his convention speech, to make sure it is congruent with your campaign strategy. What should he emphasize?I want Obama to make a targeted appeal to the African-American community to help make my case.
- To what extent will you attack Donald Trump for the rhetoric he has used about Mexicans, Muslims, women, and other groups?I am going to be pretty explicit in calling out the rhetoric and demagoguery of Donald Trump throughout this election.
- To what extent will you attack Donald Trump for the controversy surrounding Trump University?We'll bring up Trump University whenever Trump attacks us. Maybe it will get him to shut up for a bit.
- What message will you emphasize about the political views of Donald Trump on economic and budget issues?I have opposed the Trans-Pacific Partnership for many of the same reasons that Trump brings up. The bipartisan support for free trade that he inveighs against simply doesn't exist.
- Would you consider making a pledge to, if elected, serve a single term as President?That's absurd. Of course not.
- Are you still opposed to the Trans-Pacific Partnership? Would you pursue further trade agreements as President?I would encourage Democrats in Congress to oppose the Trans-Pacific Partnership when it comes to a vote.
- To what extent will you campaign with Barack Obama, or support his presence on the campaign trail this year?We want Obama on the campaign trail as much as possible, and we plan to do several joint events.
- To what extent will you support the presence of Bernie Sanders on the campaign trail?We'd be more than happy to see Bernie Sanders on the campaign trail this fall, if that's what he wants.
- Many left-wing groups are organizing huge protests at Donald Trump's rallies, some of which involve blocking traffic or forcing the cancellation of speeches. Do you have anything to say about these tactics?Donald Trump has repeatedly stepped over the line with his irresponsible rhetoric, and it shouldn't be any surprise that more and more protestors are turning out against him.
- Do you plan to participate in the traditional three debates, between yourself and Donald Trump?Any chance we can get to expose Trump's complete lack of preparation for the Presidency is a win for us.
- What was your rationale behind selecting Julian Castro as your running mate?Julian Castro is a bright, young, energetic man who will be perfectly ready to assume the Presidency from day one. He represents the best and brightest of the Hispanic community.
- While giving a speech today, you suddenly stopped speaking and appeared to briefly faint. A Secret Service agent supported you, and you came to and quickly finished the speech. Do you have any comment?It was just a headache which came on suddenly, and not any kind of long-term health issue. It's a shame that certain members of the right-wing have trafficked in fantastical conspiracy theories about my health.
- At a Trump rally today, a deranged supporter fired at several protestors before he was tackled. Are these rallies getting out of hand?Repeatedly, Mr. Trump has refused to acknowledge the consequences of his divisive rhetoric, and events at his rallies continue to escalate. What will it take for him to acknowledge that he is responsible?
- Do you support the Supreme Court ruling in 2015 which struck down any prohibition on gay marriage?I fully support gay marriage, but I'd like to see every state make this decision for itself.
- How concerned are you about the $17 trillion debt that the United States currently owes?Barack Obama has reduced the deficit of this country by over half since his first year in office, and I will do anything I can to continue his policies.
- What steps will you take to reduce or increase spending as President, per your priorities?We're going to crack down on waste and fraud. There's a terrible amount of bad stuff going on out there.
- Do you support the practice of fracking? What is your overall view on energy policy?Until green energy technologies are ready to shoulder the load, we need help from oil and fracking.
- What is your take on the Black Lives Matter movement?I support African-Americans in this country and I oppose police brutality. But these activists are a different story. There have been some very hateful things said, and they are tied to a number of riots that we've seen.
- There has been a coordinated, violent terrorist attack on London today, resulting in the death of at least 100 people. How will you address this?We're going to find whoever did this and bring them to justice. And let us remember, our country is at its best when we stand united. Islam is a religion of peace, and we only encourage the spread of terrorism if we overreact against innocent, patriotic Americans in the wake of this.
- There has been a coordinated, violent terrorist attack on Berlin today, resulting in the death of at least 100 people. How will you address this?The first thing is, let's take a moment of respect for the people who were affected by this horrible tragedy. And I trust that the European authorities are on this case and over the coming weeks we will get more information about what happened.
- Donald Trump is regularly floating the accusation that Bill Clinton had a male child with an African-American hooker in Little Rock, and that both of you have conspired to bury the story. Do you have any comment?Mr. Trump's attacks are grotesque and outrageous. I trust that Americans of all persuasions will vote this type of rhetoric down in November.
- To what extent will you attack Donald Trump for any number of statements he has made about women in his past, including in this election cycle?Mr. Trump's gross and outlandish rhetoric should disgust any decent, hard-working women in our society. We need to show that there is no place for this rhetoric.
