  • Some involved with the space program have suggested sending astronauts to Mars, or even forming moon colonies. What is your take?
    Perhaps down the line we would consider that. I think at the present moment there are more urgent priorities.
  • Do you believe the federal government is doing enough to enforce laws against employing illegal immigrants?
    E-Verify is a good start, but too many companies don't use it. It should be mandatory for any employer hiring more than a few employees.
  • A recent Supreme Court decision affirmed an Arizona law allowing officers to check suspected illegal immigrants for proof of immigration status. Do you think this law is a good idea?
    The federal government has forced Arizona's hand by being too lax on enforcement for far too long.
  • The water level of Lake Mead (the reservoir near Hoover Dam) has been steadily dropping in recent years. Should the Bureau of Reclamation regulate the use of this water more strictly?
    I'm very worried about the falling water levels in that area. If this continues, then we would eventually need to consider taking action.
  • What is your position on gay marriage?
    I'm opposed this personally. I think that, you know, different states have different opinions on this matter and it's best left to them to decide on the issue.
  • Do you support allowing the Bush Tax Cuts to expire for high-income households at the end of 2012?
    We should keep the tax cuts as is for the foreseeable future. I don't think it's sound economics to rise taxes on this group.
  • Do you support continued subsidies for the production of ethanol fuel?
    Hmm... I think we need more research to really know how this program is performing. Our Administration will make this a high priority.
  • The United States has historically subsidized corn producers. With recent price increases in the corn market, do you still believe that such a program is necessary?
    The Department of Agriculture uses subsidies to rationally manage food production. It would be foolish to reverse that policy.
  • Would it help our economy if government employment was increased? Or would this divert valuable resources from the private sector?
    It's dangerous to rely too much on government as opposed to the private sector. We shouldn't be looking at government spending and employment to resolve these issues.
  • The Affordable Care Act (i.e. 'Obamacare') will cap annual premiums, require minimum coverage levels, and outlaw discrimination against people with pre-existing conditions. What do you think?
    This is the wrong way to reform the American health care system. We should be focusing on malpractice reform and on cutting red tape for private insurers.
  • Do you think the Death with Dignity Act in Oregon could be a model for broader federal legislation on the issue?
    That's ridiculous. Of course not.
  • Do you think reduced penalties and increased treatment for drug users would help reduce the flow of drugs from Latin America?
    Have we forgotten what the early 1980s were like in Miami? I won't stand for appeasing foreign drug cartels.
  • Apple's use of cheap, Chinese labor via Foxconn has increased the visibility of labor conditions in that country. Do you think that China competes unfairly with the U.S. by denying basic rights to its workers?
    The U.S.-China relationship has destroyed middle class jobs for close to three decades. We need drastic changes including more protection for American manufacturing.
  • What is your opinion on the Tea Party movement?
    Conservatives operate under the "big tent" philosophy. This is just one of many valued groups within the conservative umbrella.
  • Should large banks like Chase, Citibank, and Bank of America be broken up to reduce the risk of another financial crisis?
    These banks would have never grown so large in the first place without colluding with the federal government. They only exist now because of a corrupt and possibly unconstitutional bailout.
  • What actions do you support to mitigate the effects of climate change?
    Even if climate change is real, it's impossible to determine how much of it results from human action. It's just as possible that the earth is warming of its own accord, and it makes no sense to disrupt our economy and potentially cause a depression until we have more information.
  • After episodes such as the 'flash crash' in 2010, would you support a small financial transactions tax, with the sole purpose being to target high-frequency trading systems?
    I'm opposed to this idea. The last thing we need to right now is create new forms of taxation.
  • What do you think the next steps should be in regards to Medicare?
    There are plenty of ways we can strengthen this system by reducing the role of government within it. For example, younger Americans should have the option to invest in personal health accounts.
  • In the past you have expressed varying opinions about abortion. Can you reassure the evangelical Christian movement that you are 100% pro-life in all circumstances?
    We should be focusing on more important issues, such as educating the next generation of American children to compete effectively in the global economy. This incessant focus on picayune facets of the abortion debate detracts from the political conversation.
  • You are one of the wealthiest individuals to ever run for President. Does this make it harder for you to understand the concerns of the average American voter?
    Why do people keep asking me this? Aren't Barack Obama, John Kerry, Bill Clinton, and Al Gore all millionaires? Everyone who runs for President is wealthy.
  • What will be the overriding theme of your nomination speech at the Republican Convention?
    My message will be a message of hope. After four years of economic blight the American people need to feel good about themselves, and they need to know that their efforts will be rewarded with material prosperity.
  • What is your guiding foreign policy philosophy?
    Non-Intervention -- Most of our foreign troop deployments are relics of the Cold War. We need to stop occupying other nations and focus on fixing our problems here at home.
  • Do you have any plans to offer Sarah Palin a role in your Administration?
    I don't want to promise or not promise anything at this point. We will review all qualified candidates after we win this election in November.
  • To what extent will you speak about your religious faith (Mormonism) on the campaign trail?
    I already made one speech that was entirely devoted to this issue back in 2008. Bringing it up more often runs the risk of distracting the American people from the most important issues of this campaign.
  • In the most general terms, what will be your overall campaign strategy against Obama?
    My surrogates have plenty of points to make about the failure of the Obama Administration. As the nominee, I will take the high road and stick to a message of optimism and American renewal.
