Answers:
- What is your overall position on the Vietnam War?We need to pull our forces out of Vietnam as soon as possible. This war is a national disgrace.
- If elected, what will you do to get the student and Negro riots in this country under control? Our first priority is always to have strong law enforcement. We also need more spending on education, more integration in our schools, and more programs to ensure that blacks can advance in our society after the stain of segregation.
- What is your opinion of Lyndon Johnson's new Medicare program?Medicare is the first step towards socialized medicine in this country. We need to end this program as soon as possible and return health care to the states and to the people.
- Are you satisfied with this nation's economic performance over the previous five years? The unemployment rate right now is under four percent. Workers, particularly those in labor unions, enjoy high purchasing power and an ever-expanding lifestyle. Economic growth throughout the 1960s has been outstanding.
- Are you satisfied with the progress of desegregation in this country since the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964?Whites and Negroes are naturally unsuited to mix together in society. The entire premise of desegregation is a farce, and my campaign is dedicated to ending this misguided policy.
- What do you think about the efforts of the AFL-CIO and other large unions? Do they have a positive effect on America?Every man should have a choice on whether to join a union or not. These large outfits monopolize the work force and use their power to perpetrate voter fraud and to enrich their bosses.
- Do you believe that the black community in most cities overreacted to the assassination of Martin Luther King this past April? The reaction that occurred should terrify any thinking American. Entire neighborhoods were burned and pillaged. They even looted their own storekeepers in many cities.
- Would you be willing to place increasing responsibility in the hands of South Vietnam for their own defense?I will withdraw American troops from Vietnam as soon as possible. The South Vietnamese should be capable of defending their own borders if they are as afraid of the Communist menace as they say they are.
- What is the maximum number of troops that you would commit to Vietnam? Is this question some kind of a joke? We need to withdraw all American troops from Vietnam.
- Do you support opening a new dialogue with our Communist adversaries, such as the Soviet Union and China? We should always be looking for areas of agreement, however limited, between ourselves, the Soviet Union, and Red China. At the very least, we can implement arms treaties and avoid the threat of a nuclear war.
- What is your stance on the Six-Day War that occurred last year, and how should Israel handle the new territories it has taken possession of?Israel has every right to these territories they now occupy. They were attacked from all sides by an enemy bent on their destruction.
- Has the current Supreme Court contributed to our disorder with decisions such as Gideon v. Wainright and Miranda v. Arizona? My priority as President will be to fight for law and order in this country. The Court had good intentions but I am concerned that they overstepped their bounds in these cases.
- What is your opinion on the legality of abortion? Would you attempt to legalize or prohibit this practice at the federal level?Abortion is an evil, murderous practice. I will stand firm against any attempts to protect this barbarism at the federal level.
- Would you appoint federal judges who support the decision Engel v. Vitale outlawing mandatory school prayer?I will appoint judges who support religious freedom in the United States. Absolutely.
- Do you think the Department of Housing and Urban Development, newly created by Lyndon Johnson, serves a useful purpose in American life?I will do my best to ensure that this program is managed soundly and does not become some kind of welfare program without accountability.
- What is causing the massive increase of crime in America? How will you reverse the trend? This increase in crime we see is the natural consequence of integration. I will not allow the black community in this country to get fancified notions of what they can get away with when I'm President.
- Would you consider a constitutional amendment to outlaw the birth control pill, given the Supreme Court's decisions on that issue? We have bigger priorities to deal with right now in America. I don't think that most Americans support or expect this kind of an initiative.
- Do you believe that President Johnson overstepped his bounds in negotiating the Kennedy Round of trade agreements? Do you support the liberalization of international trade under the GATT?I support these international trade negotiations, but we must be sure that we don't undermine the rights of our own unions with one-sided agreements.
- Do we need more spending in the War on Poverty, especially in light of the riots since 1965?I support the War on Poverty as it stands. We have passed a lot of new initiatives and we should wait to see what effect they have. To me, cracking down on the law and order issues is more important.
- On the weekend before the election, Lyndon Johnson's peace negotiations have collapsed with the North Vietnamese. Even worse, there are rumors that a Nixon operative has sabotaged the negotiations. Nixon swears to you on his honor that he is innocent. Will you make this an issue over the last two days of the campaign? This is bordering on treason. The American people deserve to hear about this.
- What will be the overall message of your campaign?I'm opposed to desegregation, environmentalism, defeatism, social engineering, busing, declining property values, and unchecked rioting. My candidacy appeals to southerners and northerners alike.
- What can you say to the people of the South to dampen the appeal of Richard Nixon?I have more credibility than Nixon does on the issues of law-and-order. I trust that southerners will see through his empty appeals on this issue.
- What is more important to you -- competing with Nixon in the border states (to help Humphrey) or winning over Humphrey voters in the northern cities (to help Nixon)? It looks like Nixon is the favorite, so I'm going to focus most of my efforts on campaigning where he's ahead.
- If there is no majority in the electoral college, what are your goals at the bargaining table?Whatever ends up happening on election day, I cannot comment about the aftermath at this point. If that scenario develops I will hear what each side has to say and make a decision at that point.
- What is your opinion of the military draft that is currently in place? We have had a draft in place for decades. I will not accept cowardice as an excuse among the young men of America.
