  • What is your opinion on the detention center at Guantanamo Bay? Would you consider closing it after the election?
    I would like to close it, but we need to figure out an alternative way to detain these people.
  • Should the Confederate flag be removed entirely from the South Carolina statehouse grounds?
    I would prefer to see it go, but there's not much I could do to make that happen as President. It's an issue for South Carolinians to decide.
  • Do you believe the federal government is doing enough to enforce laws against employing illegal immigrants?
    The Department of Homeland Security is deporting hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants each year. How can anyone suggest that we're not trying to address this issue?
  • A recent Supreme Court decision affirmed an Arizona law allowing officers to check suspected illegal immigrants for proof of immigration status. Do you think this law is a good idea?
    I don't want to comment on an issue that is best left to the voters of Arizona.
  • What is your position on gay marriage?
    I'm opposed this personally. I think that, you know, different states have different opinions on this matter and it's best left to them to decide on the issue.
  • Should military women serve in combat roles?
    Separate is inherently unequal. There is nothing preventing women from serving in combat roles.
  • Do you support allowing the Bush Tax Cuts to expire for high-income households at the end of 2012?
    We should keep the tax cuts as is for the foreseeable future. I don't think it's sound economics to rise taxes on this group.
  • What is your opinion on directing some Department of Education funding towards a school voucher program?
    In limited cases, such as those currently in place, there is a role for vouchers. But improving public education should be our primary focus.
  • In general, do you think bilingual education programs are a good idea?
    For new immigrants who do not yet speak English, there is a need for some bilingual programs. However, there should be strict time limits on how long students may remain enrolled.
  • Should middle school students learn about contraception in health class, or will this simply encourage them to experiment?
    That doesn't sound like a good idea to me. Perhaps with high schoolers it makes more sense to, you know, delve into some of those details.
  • Should all private insurance plans be required to cover contraceptives and birth control?
    Perhaps if someone really wants to object, there can be a process for them to obtain a religious exemption.
  • The Affordable Care Act (i.e. 'Obamacare') will cap annual premiums, require minimum coverage levels, and outlaw discrimination against people with pre-existing conditions. What do you think?
    This is the wrong way to reform the American health care system. We should be focusing on malpractice reform and on cutting red tape for private insurers.
  • Is it time for the federal government to cut spending, even with the economy growing at less than 2% annually?
    It is not a good idea to cut the size of the government in the midst of a recession. Shrinking payrolls at the state level have served to drag down our most recent recovery.
  • Apple's use of cheap, Chinese labor via Foxconn has increased the visibility of labor conditions in that country. Do you think that China competes unfairly with the U.S. by denying basic rights to its workers?
    These workers were very well paid in comparison to the average person in their area. I don't see a problem with what Apple is doing.
  • What is your opinion on the Tea Party movement?
    Conservatives operate under the "big tent" philosophy. This is just one of many valued groups within the conservative umbrella.
  • Should federal fuel taxes be slightly increased (they have been the same since 1993) to avoid another catastrophe like the Minnesota bridge collapse of 2007?
    There are better ways of funding our federal highway projects than with another increase to the gas tax, especially given how much prices have risen in the past few years.
  • How much attack advertising will your campaign use?
    I will run an uplifting, positive campaign focusing on the issues that concern the American people. I trust that they will see through any petty, unfounded attacks that our opponents come up with.
  • Should large banks like Chase, Citibank, and Bank of America be broken up to reduce the risk of another financial crisis?
    That's not the best solution for us to take. The last thing we need right now in the financial sector is some kind of arbitrary, destabilizing government action.
  • What do you think the next steps should be in regards to Medicare?
    Medicare is a good program. We need to find some way of controlling costs and of more effectively managing care, but the overall program is sound.
  • Is your campaign planning to allow Ron Paul a high-profile speaking slot at the Republican Convention, in light of the number of delegates that he commands?
    You know, it couldn't hurt to give Mr. Paul a few minutes outside of prime time. Even if his views are a little on the fringe, he does have a very committed following. I'm willing to compromise on a couple of issues if that's what it takes to bring them in.
  • If elected, what will you do to repeal Obamacare?
    I will offer an alternative health care reform plan which doesn't regulate private insurers to such an unrealistic extreme. I will work for malpractice reform as well, so that unnecessary litigation does not continue to drive up the cost of health care.
  • You are one of the wealthiest individuals to ever run for President. Does this make it harder for you to understand the concerns of the average American voter?
    Not at all. I grew up in (somewhat) modest circumstances and I know what it's like to work your way up through life.
  • What will be the overriding theme of your nomination speech at the Republican Convention?
    I will emphasize the point that the Republican Party has a big tent. We are the party for anyone who tries to work hard and get ahead in America.
  • What is your guiding foreign policy philosophy?
    American Exceptionalism -- Providence has given America to the world as an inspiration, and we must vigorously defend the ideals of peace and freedom wherever they may be threatened.
  • In the most general terms, what will be your overall campaign strategy against Obama?
    I will reach out to moderates and conservative Democrats and attempt to build an all-encompassing coalition. It's time that America had a true leader in charge.
