  • Should the Confederate flag be removed entirely from the South Carolina statehouse grounds?
    I would prefer to see it go, but there's not much I could do to make that happen as President. It's an issue for South Carolinians to decide.
  • A recent Supreme Court decision affirmed an Arizona law allowing officers to check suspected illegal immigrants for proof of immigration status. Do you think this law is a good idea?
    I don't want to comment on an issue that is best left to the voters of Arizona.
  • Should the United States have been so quick to drop its support for Hosni Mubarak in 2011, given recent events in Egypt?
    That's a great question. It's hard to speculate on what might have been, but it at time it seemed clear that Mubarak had to go.
  • What is your position on gay marriage?
    I'm opposed this personally. I think that, you know, different states have different opinions on this matter and it's best left to them to decide on the issue.
  • Do you support allowing the Bush Tax Cuts to expire for high-income households at the end of 2012?
    Perhaps we can consider letting these expire at some point in the future, but for now we are mired in a stagnant economy and need to avoid tax increases.
  • Overall, are you satisfied with the trade relationship between the U.S. and China?
    The U.S.-China relationship has destroyed middle class jobs for close to three decades. We need drastic changes including more protection for American manufacturing.
  • What do you think we should do next in regards to Social Security?
    With minor changes like an increase to the retirement age and means testing after a certain benefit level, we can ensure the solvency of this program long into the future.
  • Michigan was one of the hardest hit states in the recent recession. Do you support higher taxes on foreign vehicles while that auto industry regroups in that state?
    Absolutely. We need to create an environment where American products can compete fairly with foreign imports.
  • Would it help our economy if government employment was increased? Or would this divert valuable resources from the private sector?
    It's dangerous to rely too much on government as opposed to the private sector. We shouldn't be looking at government spending and employment to resolve these issues.
  • The Affordable Care Act (i.e. 'Obamacare') will cap annual premiums, require minimum coverage levels, and outlaw discrimination against people with pre-existing conditions. What do you think?
    This is the wrong way to reform the American health care system. We should be focusing on malpractice reform and on cutting red tape for private insurers.
  • Do you think the Death with Dignity Act in Oregon could be a model for broader federal legislation on the issue?
    That's ridiculous. Of course not.
  • Do you see any need for a United States Institute of Peace?
    This agency performs valuable research on how to avoid future conflicts. It will pay for itself many times over if it succeeds at that mission.
  • Should taxpayers be forced to subsidize Planned Parenthood via federal subsidies?
    I will end federal funding for Planned Parenthood on Day 1 of my Administration.
  • Should the Social Security Trust Fund be purchasing U.S. Treasury bills? Should it be allowed to invest in other bonds and securities to potentially increase its rate of return? Or conversely, should the funds be held in a 'lockbox' to guarantee benefit payments?
    This is a corrupt, ludicrous practice which Congress uses to hide the true size of our budget and Social Security deficits.
  • Should large banks like Chase, Citibank, and Bank of America be broken up to reduce the risk of another financial crisis?
    These banks would have never grown so large in the first place without colluding with the federal government. They only exist now because of a corrupt and possibly unconstitutional bailout.
  • Who are the real job creators in this country -- hardworking American citizens or Washington bureaucrats?
    American small business, obviously. I will be their champion as President.
  • After episodes such as the 'flash crash' in 2010, would you support a small financial transactions tax, with the sole purpose being to target high-frequency trading systems?
    I'm opposed to this idea. The last thing we need to right now is create new forms of taxation.
  • Is your campaign planning to allow Ron Paul a high-profile speaking slot at the Republican Convention, in light of the number of delegates that he commands?
    You know, it couldn't hurt to give Mr. Paul a few minutes outside of prime time. Even if his views are a little on the fringe, he does have a very committed following. I'm willing to compromise on a couple of issues if that's what it takes to bring them in.
  • If elected, what will you do to repeal Obamacare?
    I will work with our majority in the House and hopefully in the Senate to end this plan once and for all.
  • You are one of the wealthiest individuals to ever run for President. Does this make it harder for you to understand the concerns of the average American voter?
    Ann and I lived in a basement apartment and ate tuna fish. I wasn't rich until my success in business, which I make no apology for.
  • Recent reports have highlighted the large amount of money that you and your wife spend on racing horses. Have you ever bet more than $10,000 on a horse race?
    Absolutely not. I wouldn't think of making a bet this large.
  • Scott Brown is currently fighting the good fight in the Massachusetts Senate race. Would you be open to offering him a position in your Administration if he falls short there?
    I've known Scott Brown for many years. If that was something he'd be interested in, we are always glad to have qualified individuals working on our side.
  • What will be the overriding theme of your nomination speech at the Republican Convention?
    I will emphasize the point that the Republican Party has a big tent. We are the party for anyone who tries to work hard and get ahead in America.
  • What is your guiding foreign policy philosophy?
    Non-Intervention -- Most of our foreign troop deployments are relics of the Cold War. We need to stop occupying other nations and focus on fixing our problems here at home.
  • In the most general terms, what will be your overall campaign strategy against Obama?
    My surrogates have plenty of points to make about the failure of the Obama Administration. As the nominee, I will take the high road and stick to a message of optimism and American renewal.
