Answers:

  • Some observers have argued that an embargo of Cuba makes little sense in a post Cold War environment. What do you think?
I absolutely agree. The embargo against Cuba is a disgrace.
  • Some involved with the space program have suggested sending astronauts to Mars, or even forming moon colonies. What is your take?
I think that's a horrible idea. It sounds like we would squander a lot of money that could be used for education and health care.
  • A recent Supreme Court decision affirmed an Arizona law allowing officers to check suspected illegal immigrants for proof of immigration status. Do you think this law is a good idea?
The federal government has forced Arizona's hand by being too lax on enforcement for far too long.
  • The water level of Lake Mead (the reservoir near Hoover Dam) has been steadily dropping in recent years. Should the Bureau of Reclamation regulate the use of this water more strictly?
They already regulate it too strictly in my opinion. Water should be much cheaper in the Southwest.
  • What is your position on gay marriage?
I'm opposed this personally. I think that, you know, different states have different opinions on this matter and it's best left to them to decide on the issue.
  • Should military women serve in combat roles?
That's a very bad idea. Women in combat roles will not pull their weight, and will undermine unit morale.
  • Do you support allowing the Bush Tax Cuts to expire for high-income households at the end of 2012?
I support letting the cuts expire. It's time that wealthy Americans paid their fair share for the opportunities our society gives to them.
  • Overall, are you satisfied with the trade relationship between the U.S. and China?
This should be a model for other trade agreements as the developing world continues to seek the benefits of globalization.
  • The United States has historically subsidized corn producers. With recent price increases in the corn market, do you still believe that such a program is necessary?
This policy has contributed to the degradation of the American diet and contributes to our exploding obesity and diabetes epidemics. It should be ended.
  • We have now had 10 years to analyze the effects of the No Child Left Behind Act. Do you think it is time for a change?
This is a good program overall. Perhaps some minor details can be fixed, but without standardized testing there is no way to monitor the quality of our educational system.
  • Michigan was one of the hardest hit states in the recent recession. Do you support higher taxes on foreign vehicles while that auto industry regroups in that state?
I am a firm believer in free trade. This would not help anybody and it would further distort our economy.
  • In general, do you think bilingual education programs are a good idea?
Absolutely. It it discriminatory not to allow American students to learn in their native languages.
  • What is your opinion on the 'gunwalking' tactics that led to the 'Fast and Furious' scandal?
It makes sense to track gun sales over a period of time, to get a better picture of who is buying them, and to try and arrest more important cartel leaders.
  • The Affordable Care Act (i.e. 'Obamacare') will cap annual premiums, require minimum coverage levels, and outlaw discrimination against people with pre-existing conditions. What do you think?
This program will be a disaster. Not only is it an unconstitutional violation of personal freedom, but it will lead to a decline in American health care and will prove to be financially impossible to maintain without socializing the health care system.
  • Would you support a Constitutional Amendment to overturn some provisions of the Citizens United ruling, affecting campaign finance by PAC's?
Absolutely not. The right to disseminate one's political viewpoints freely is central to American democracy.
  • Do you see any need for a United States Institute of Peace?
This agency performs valuable research on how to avoid future conflicts. It will pay for itself many times over if it succeeds at that mission.
  • Would you advocate cutting Peace Corps funding to help address the deficit?
The Peace Corps is a pointless department and it should be abolished.
  • Should federal fuel taxes be slightly increased (they have been the same since 1993) to avoid another catastrophe like the Minnesota bridge collapse of 2007?
I don't see a problem with a small increase. We should be encouraging other forms of transportation, and on top of that our highways are woefully underfunded.
  • Who are the real job creators in this country -- hardworking American citizens or Washington bureaucrats?
Are you expecting me to even answer such a loaded question?
  • Mitt Romney was the CEO of Bain Capital for many years. What can you say about his time at that firm?
We plan to attack Romney's record relentlessly. He oversaw numerous outsourcings and corporate downsizings in his time as CEO, and his company represents the dark side of American business.
  • Some on the left have criticized your reliance on drone strikes to project American interests, stating that they lead to unnecessary civilian casualties. What can you say to this?
I think some people need to grow up and view our national security in a more realistic fashion.
  • What will be the overriding theme of your nomination speech at the Democratic Convention?
I will talk about the myriad methods that the Republicans use to divide our country. I will remind everyone that Democrats are truly the party of the common person -- regardless of background or income level.
  • The 2012 Federal Highway Bill that you signed bars the use of federal funds for red-light traffic cameras. Do you agree with this provision?
Personally I'm a big supporter of these cameras. Unfortunately, compromises had to be made to get the larger bill passed.
  • What is your guiding foreign policy philosophy?
American Exceptionalism -- Providence has given America to the world as an inspiration, and we must vigorously defend the ideals of peace and freedom wherever they may be threatened.
  • In the most general terms, what will be your overall campaign strategy against Romney?
We will attack Mitt Romney relentlessly. He has flip-flopped on key issues and he destroyed thousands of jobs at Bain Capital. He is out of touch with the American people, and he's attacking us for a health care plan that is nearly identical to his own plan in Massachusetts.
