- A recent Supreme Court decision affirmed an Arizona law allowing officers to check suspected illegal immigrants for proof of immigration status. Do you think this law is a good idea? The federal government has forced Arizona's hand by being too lax on enforcement for far too long.
- Do you have an opinion on net neutrality?Internet service providers should have a right to charge fair value for the service they provide. I'm not comfortable with anything that would regulate their ability to serve their customers.
- Should the United States have been so quick to drop its support for Hosni Mubarak in 2011, given recent events in Egypt? We have allowed one of the last moderate regimes in the Middle East to be replaced by Muslim fundamentalists. This is an unconscionable betrayal of our ally Israel and will harm American security.
- Should the United States contribute funds to help stabilize the European Union's sovereign debt problems, in order to prevent a possible debt contagion? There's no way that the United States should be shipping money overseas to support a European-model welfare state. That would be the height of lunacy.
- Do you support a larger fence or even a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border to prevent illegal immigration? The border fence should become a border wall, with more depth to its patrols. It is simply too easy for migrants to sneak across the border right now.
- How long should U.S. troops remain in Afghanistan?U.S. troops should leave immediately.
- What is your position on gay marriage?Under no circumstances should the sacred institution of marriage be undermined. The Defense of Marriage Act was passed specifially to address this issue.
- Should military women serve in combat roles?Separate is inherently unequal. There is nothing preventing women from serving in combat roles.
- Do you support allowing the Bush Tax Cuts to expire for high-income households at the end of 2012?We should keep the tax cuts as is for the foreseeable future. I don't think it's sound economics to rise taxes on this group.
- Michigan was one of the hardest hit states in the recent recession. Do you support higher taxes on foreign vehicles while that auto industry regroups in that state?Absolutely. We need to create an environment where American products can compete fairly with foreign imports.
- Would it help our economy if government employment was increased? Or would this divert valuable resources from the private sector?Government employment should be cut drastically to help us balance the budget.
- Does it still make sense to provide military aid to Pakistan's government?Further aid should be directly tied to Pakistan's continuing progress towards openness and democracy.
- Should all private insurance plans be required to cover contraceptives and birth control? This is a violation of religious freedom. Many religious organizations and hospitals insure or care for individuals, and some of them have moral objections to birth control
- The Affordable Care Act (i.e. 'Obamacare') will cap annual premiums, require minimum coverage levels, and outlaw discrimination against people with pre-existing conditions. What do you think? This program will be a disaster. Not only is it an unconstitutional violation of personal freedom, but it will lead to a decline in American health care and will prove to be financially impossible to maintain without socializing the health care system.
- Would you support a Constitutional Amendment to overturn some provisions of the Citizens United ruling, affecting campaign finance by PAC's?Absolutely not. The right to disseminate one's political viewpoints freely is central to American democracy.
- Do you think the Death with Dignity Act in Oregon could be a model for broader federal legislation on the issue? That's ridiculous. Of course not.
- What is your opinion on the Occupy Wall Street movement?Occupy Wall Street is a great force in American life. It's unfortunate that the corporate-controlled media has worked so hard to marginalize this group.
- How do you feel about capitalism and the free market?Since the founding of our country, the free market has always been a bulwark of our prosperity.
- Should military spending be cut to help reduce the deficit? If so, by how much? How can Republicans talk about cutting the size of the federal government without supporting a dime of military cuts? In a post-Cold War environment, it makes absolutely no sense for us to spend what we do on defense. Military spending should be cut drastically.
- During your tenure, Bain Capital laid off thousands of workers at various companies that it purchased. Are you proud of your work at that company? We created numerous companies like Staples, which are American success stories employing thousands of people.
- Would you nominate any Democrats to your cabinet if elected?Hillary Clinton has done an outstanding job as Secretary of State. I would be glad to have her on board for my Administration.
- Scott Brown is currently fighting the good fight in the Massachusetts Senate race. Would you be open to offering him a position in your Administration if he falls short there?I've known Scott Brown for many years. If that was something he'd be interested in, we are always glad to have qualified individuals working on our side.
- What will be the overriding theme of your nomination speech at the Republican Convention?I will emphasize the point that the Republican Party has a big tent. We are the party for anyone who tries to work hard and get ahead in America.
- What is your guiding foreign policy philosophy?American Exceptionalism -- Providence has given America to the world as an inspiration, and we must vigorously defend the ideals of peace and freedom wherever they may be threatened.
- In the most general terms, what will be your overall campaign strategy against Obama? We will attack Barack Obama relentlessly. He has gone back on his pledge to clean up our political system, he has destroyed hundreds of thousands of jobs in his first term, his values are out of touch with those of most Americans, and his health care reform is disastrous.
