  • A recent Supreme Court decision affirmed an Arizona law allowing officers to check suspected illegal immigrants for proof of immigration status. Do you think this law is a good idea?
    This is an unconscionable violation of civil rights and will certainly lead to racial profiling.
  • The water level of Lake Mead (the reservoir near Hoover Dam) has been steadily dropping in recent years. Should the Bureau of Reclamation regulate the use of this water more strictly?
    I'm very worried about the falling water levels in that area. If this continues, then we would eventually need to consider taking action.
  • Should the federal government continue to finance newer companies that attempt to develop alternative energy resources, such as solar power and electric car manufacturers?
    Every day that we don't invest in solar power is a day that we fall further behind countries like China and Germany. Investment should be increased.
  • Would you support posting active U.S. Army troops on the U.S.-Mexico border to prevent illegal immigration and drug smuggling?
    I don't agree with that course of action. The Border Patrol is in place to do just that job.
  • What is your position on gay marriage?
    I think civil unions are an acceptable compromise for the majority of mainstream Americans.
  • Do you support allowing the Bush Tax Cuts to expire for high-income households at the end of 2012?
    Perhaps we can consider letting these expire at some point in the future, but for now we are mired in a stagnant economy and need to avoid tax increases.
  • The United States has historically subsidized corn producers. With recent price increases in the corn market, do you still believe that such a program is necessary?
    The Department of Agriculture uses subsidies to rationally manage food production. It would be foolish to reverse that policy.
  • Would it help our economy if government employment was increased? Or would this divert valuable resources from the private sector?
    It's dangerous to rely too much on government as opposed to the private sector. We shouldn't be looking at government spending and employment to resolve these issues.
  • Do you support increased restrictions on handgun ownership?
    Gun rights are protected by the Second Amendment. Furthermore, an armed citizenry is our best defense against crime and government tyranny.
  • In general, do you think bilingual education programs are a good idea?
    Only in limited circumstances. I would prefer not to see them at all but I can understand the need for some schools to implement this.
  • The Affordable Care Act (i.e. 'Obamacare') will cap annual premiums, require minimum coverage levels, and outlaw discrimination against people with pre-existing conditions. What do you think?
    This program will be a disaster. Not only is it an unconstitutional violation of personal freedom, but it will lead to a decline in American health care and will prove to be financially impossible to maintain without socializing the health care system.
  • Would you support a Constitutional Amendment to overturn some provisions of the Citizens United ruling, affecting campaign finance by PAC's?
    This is one of the worst decisions in the history of the court. If they can't see that campaign finance regulation is entirely constitutional, then we do need to have an Amendment in place.
  • Do you think the Death with Dignity Act in Oregon could be a model for broader federal legislation on the issue?
    That's ridiculous. Of course not.
  • The maximum duration of unemployment insurance, with all extensions factored in, has been reduced from 99 weeks. Do you think this is appropriate in the current economic climate?
    There shouldn't be limits on the duration of unemployment insurance. This program is the only thing supporting many displaced workers, and the economic benefits of unemployment insurance are also beyond dispute.
  • Would you consider a default on some U.S. debt obligations if the financial situation of the country continues to deteriorate?
    We need to consider all options. A controlled debt writedown just might be the best way to reignite the world economy, which is suffering from an abundance of bad debt at the current moment.
  • Should large banks like Chase, Citibank, and Bank of America be broken up to reduce the risk of another financial crisis?
    Too big to fail is too big to exist. It's pathetic just how much our representatives have allowed themselves to be bought by financial institutions.
  • What actions do you support to mitigate the effects of climate change?
    Even if climate change is real, it's impossible to determine how much of it results from human action. It's just as possible that the earth is warming of its own accord, and it makes no sense to disrupt our economy and potentially cause a depression until we have more information.
  • The Supreme Court will be deciding an affirmative action case this fall involving the University of Texas. Should colleges be allowed to consider the race of an applicant when deciding whether to admit them?
    I oppose discrimination in all of its forms. Colleges should be forced to admit based on the merit of their applications, in a color-blind fashion.
  • The most recent poll showed you slipping by a couple of percentage points. Are you planning on making any changes in your campaign to address this?
    The only day that matters is election day. I think the fundamental incompetence of my opponent will be obvious by that point.
  • What is the best way to make college more affordable for young people?
    If we had more federal funding for student loans and grants, it would make college more accessible to underprivileged students. I also support increased grants to the states to support their state university systems.
  • Over half of all sexual harassment complaints filed in 2011 were dismissed -- an increase from previous years. Do you think enough is being done to prevent sexual harassment in the workplace?
    I'm very concerned about this issue. I would like to see our funding level increase for the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, so that adequate resources are in place to pursue these claims.
  • Can you clear up any confusion with the Republican base about your beliefs on global warming?
    I would be glad to. Even if the earth is getting warmer, it's impossible to say that human activity is the main driver. We've had these fluctuations over and over again during the geological history of our planet.
  • What will be the overriding theme of your nomination speech at the Republican Convention?
    I will emphasize the point that the Republican Party has a big tent. We are the party for anyone who tries to work hard and get ahead in America.
  • What is your guiding foreign policy philosophy?
    Non-Intervention -- Most of our foreign troop deployments are relics of the Cold War. We need to stop occupying other nations and focus on fixing our problems here at home.
  • In the most general terms, what will be your overall campaign strategy against Obama?
    I will reach out to moderates and conservative Democrats and attempt to build an all-encompassing coalition. It's time that America had a true leader in charge.
