  • Some involved with the space program have suggested sending astronauts to Mars, or even forming moon colonies. What is your take?
    Perhaps down the line we would consider that. I think at the present moment there are more urgent priorities.
  • A recent Supreme Court decision affirmed an Arizona law allowing officers to check suspected illegal immigrants for proof of immigration status. Do you think this law is a good idea?
    This is an unconscionable violation of civil rights and will certainly lead to racial profiling.
  • Should the United States have been so quick to drop its support for Hosni Mubarak in 2011, given recent events in Egypt?
    Decades of meddling by the U.S. has created these unstable situations in the Middle East. We should have withheld our support for Mubarak when he first took office, instead of giving him billions in military aid.
  • In November 2011, Ohio voters rejected a law to limit collective bargaining power for public unions. Do public sector unions such as teachers' and police unions have too much bargaining power?
    I support the hardworking teachers and firefighters of Ohio and elsewhere.
  • Do you support a larger fence or even a wall on the U.S.-Mexico border to prevent illegal immigration?
    I think that what we have now is sufficient. There's no need to constantly revisit this issue when the Border Patrol has seen documented success in reducing immigration over the past few years.
  • What is your position on gay marriage?
    Gay marriage should be protected at the federal level. The Defense of Marriage Act should be repealed.
  • Is the United States too reliant on fossil fuels for its energy needs?
    Yes. We need to combine the use of these sources with further research into solar and wind power.
  • Do you support allowing the Bush Tax Cuts to expire for high-income households at the end of 2012?
    Perhaps we can consider letting these expire at some point in the future, but for now we are mired in a stagnant economy and need to avoid tax increases.
  • The United States has historically subsidized corn producers. With recent price increases in the corn market, do you still believe that such a program is necessary?
    The Department of Agriculture uses subsidies to rationally manage food production. It would be foolish to reverse that policy.
  • The Affordable Care Act (i.e. 'Obamacare') will cap annual premiums, require minimum coverage levels, and outlaw discrimination against people with pre-existing conditions. What do you think?
    I'm convinced that this program will work. This is a good compromise allowing private insurers to conduct business, while securing access to health insurance for more Americans. If anything, the increased transparency will reduce insurance costs.
  • Should Angela Merkel be doing more to preserve to Euro as the European Union's common currency?
    If Merkel fails in this mission, we all will be affected negatively. I have the utmost faith that she realizes this and will act accordingly.
  • Should the Social Security Trust Fund be purchasing U.S. Treasury bills? Should it be allowed to invest in other bonds and securities to potentially increase its rate of return? Or conversely, should the funds be held in a 'lockbox' to guarantee benefit payments?
    This is a corrupt, ludicrous practice which Congress uses to hide the true size of our budget and Social Security deficits.
  • The budget for the Department of Housing and Urban Development was cut by nearly $4 billion in 2012. Do you think subsidized housing for the poor is a good place to begin reducing the federal deficit?
    This is the wrong way to go about balancing the budget. I oppose these cuts.
  • How do you feel about capitalism and the free market?
    I am a firm proponent of the free market. We simply need effective regulation to make sure that the economy works as best as it possibly can.
  • Should large banks like Chase, Citibank, and Bank of America be broken up to reduce the risk of another financial crisis?
    We have passed the Dodd-Frank Act to analyze systemic risks to the financial system.
  • Who are the real job creators in this country -- hardworking American citizens or Washington bureaucrats?
    American small business, obviously. I will be their champion as President.
  • Is there too much regulation of the American logging industry?
    No, I don't think so. The last thing we need is a return to the abuses of the past.
  • Tell us how you feel about the Keystone Pipeline.
    It's shameful that we're even having a debate on this. It just goes to show how much influence oil companies have at the highest levels of government.
  • Would you consider military action in Syria if the impasse between Bashar Assad and the rebels there continues?
    I will do what is necessary to preserve freedom and human rights in Syria. It's impossible to say whether that means committing the U.S. military or not at this point.
  • Elizabeth Warren is currently fighting the good fight in the Massachusetts Senate race. Would you be open to offering her a position in your Administration if she falls short there?
    She was supposed to be the head of the Consumer Financial Protection Board, remember? Republican obstructionism prevented that. I'm confident that she will do well against Scott Brown in the Massachusetts Senate race.
  • What will be the overriding theme of your nomination speech at the Democratic Convention?
    I will give an honest speech about the challenges I was facing in 2009, what I did to address them, what I tried to do that was blocked by Republican obstructionism, and what jobs policies I will continue to push for in my second term.
  • Joe Biden made what can only be described as a gaffe on the campaign trail today. What are your comments?
    What can you say? We've all been out here for weeks with very little sleep. No one knows more about foreign policy than Joe Biden, so I'm sure it was just a slip of the tongue.
  • Be perfectly honest. How do you like Mitt Romney as a person?
    I wish Mitt all the best in life as soon as he loses this election. He seems like a great guy once you get away from all of this politicking.
  • What is your guiding foreign policy philosophy?
    Human Rights -- It's past time that we cut allegiances with dictators like the House of Saud and truly lived up to our ideals. I will only support or give aid to democratically elected leaders.
  • In the most general terms, what will be your overall campaign strategy against Romney?
    Behind the scenes my surrogates have plenty of dirt to spread about Romney and the Republicans. As President, I will stick to a message of optimism and hope in my own campaign speeches.
