    The federal government has forced Arizona's hand by being too lax on enforcement for far too long.
  • Does it make sense to dispose our nuclear waste at Yucca Mountain in Nevada?
    As a sovereign state, Nevada has every right to reject this proposal. Nobody wants to live next to a toxic nuclear waste site.
  • How do you view the practice of hydraulic fracturing (aka 'fracking') in the Dakotas and elsewhere?
    This is a generational shift in the world energy game in the favor of the United States. There are plenty of regulations in place to protect our drinking water, and we simply cannot afford to miss out on the benefits of shale oil.
  • In November 2011, Ohio voters rejected a law to limit collective bargaining power for public unions. Do public sector unions such as teachers' and police unions have too much bargaining power?
    Collective bargaining in the public sector is one of the primary contributors to our exploding state deficits, which must eventually be subsidized by the federal government. I agree that the practice should end.
  • Would you support posting active U.S. Army troops on the U.S.-Mexico border to prevent illegal immigration and drug smuggling?
    I support a wall and I support the presence of American troops. The purpose of the military is to defend our borders.
  • How long should U.S. troops remain in Afghanistan?
    As long as it takes to ensure their transition to democracy. We cannot let the Taliban undermine us, or we may soon witness further terrorist attacks like those of 9-11.
  • What is your position on gay marriage?
    I think civil unions are an acceptable compromise for the majority of mainstream Americans.
  • Do you support allowing the Bush Tax Cuts to expire for high-income households at the end of 2012?
    Our most productive citizens need further tax cuts to stimulate business confidence, investment, and further job creation.
  • Overall, are you satisfied with the trade relationship between the U.S. and China?
    I'm not very satisfied at all. Off the record, however, we cannot change much without risking a Chinese flight from our Treasuries and a possible trade war.
  • What do you think we should do next in regards to Social Security?
    The Social Security program has unfunded liabilities of over $100 trillion. It's time for us to admit that the Social Security program is bankrupt before it drags the rest of the federal government down with it.
  • What is your opinion on the 'gunwalking' tactics that led to the 'Fast and Furious' scandal?
    This is a specialized occupational question that can best be answered by the ATF and the Department of Justice.
  • Should middle school students learn about contraception in health class, or will this simply encourage them to experiment?
    I support abstinence-only education, and believe that federal funding should be tied to adherence with this policy.
  • The Affordable Care Act (i.e. 'Obamacare') will cap annual premiums, require minimum coverage levels, and outlaw discrimination against people with pre-existing conditions. What do you think?
    This program will be a disaster. Not only is it an unconstitutional violation of personal freedom, but it will lead to a decline in American health care and will prove to be financially impossible to maintain without socializing the health care system.
  • Do you think the Death with Dignity Act in Oregon could be a model for broader federal legislation on the issue?
    A huge portion of our health care costs are accrued in the final few days of life. We need to overcome our prejudices and bring a more open mind to this issue.
  • Should American workers have the right to invest their Social Security withholdings in private accounts?
    No sensible investor would put a dime into the Social Security program if they weren't forced to by law. It is unfair to ask America's workers to put money into a program that has no promise of ever providing them with benefits.
  • Will you wear an American flag lapel on your suit as you campaign?
    It baffles me how someone could be ashamed to display the American flag. It seems a little unpatriotic to me.
  • What actions do you support to mitigate the effects of climate change?
    Climate change is a hoax purveyed by a collection of scientists and liberal politicians to provide them a pretext for further intervention in the economy.
  • This morning you went to an elementary school and read books to a class of second-graders. How did you enjoy yourself?
    I had a fantastic time. Days like today remind me of why we need to abolish the Department of Education.
  • Would you consider military action in Syria if the impasse between Bashar Assad and the rebels there continues?
    It's something we should keep on the table. The entire idea of our intervention in Iraq was to unleash a wave of democratic movements in the Middle East. Hopefully Syria qualifies as such.
  • Your former Chief of Staff Rahm Emanuel is currently engaged in a high-profile struggle with the Chicago Teachers Union. Do you hope that he succeeds?
    I think Rahm's demands are reasonable. We have to do something to improve education in Chicago.
  • You have expressed support for increasing taxes on the rich to address our budget shortfall. However, almost half of Americans currently pay no income taxes. Are you sure this is a good idea?
    After further soul-searching, I've come to understand that balancing America's books on the backs of the rich is a mathematically futile endeavor. Taxes will also need to be increased on the middle-class.
  • What will be the overriding theme of your nomination speech at the Democratic Convention?
    I will give an honest speech about the challenges I was facing in 2009, what I did to address them, what I tried to do that was blocked by Republican obstructionism, and what jobs policies I will continue to push for in my second term.
  • Do you think Hillary Clinton would make a good Presidential candidate in 2016?
    For all we know, I might be running against her again. If I lost a very tight election in 2012, maybe even winning the popular vote, do you really think I would lack the authority to try again in four years? That's what happened to Grover Cleveland you know, and he made a comeback, so let's not count me out here.
  • What is your guiding foreign policy philosophy?
    American Exceptionalism -- Providence has given America to the world as an inspiration, and we must vigorously defend the ideals of peace and freedom wherever they may be threatened.
  • In the most general terms, what will be your overall campaign strategy against Romney?
    We will attack Mitt Romney relentlessly. He has flip-flopped on key issues and he destroyed thousands of jobs at Bain Capital. He is out of touch with the American people, and he's attacking us for a health care plan that is nearly identical to his own plan in Massachusetts.
