  • What is your opinion on the detention center at Guantanamo Bay? Would you consider closing it after the election?
    It's a difficult issue, but given the dangerous nature of these detainees, the center should remain open.
  • Some involved with the space program have suggested sending astronauts to Mars, or even forming moon colonies. What is your take?
    I think that's a question for the free market to decide. I don't think it's appropriate for NASA or somebody to launch an expensive program just for the sake of it.
  • Should the Confederate flag be removed entirely from the South Carolina statehouse grounds?
    I would prefer to see it go, but there's not much I could do to make that happen as President. It's an issue for South Carolinians to decide.
  • A recent Supreme Court decision affirmed an Arizona law allowing officers to check suspected illegal immigrants for proof of immigration status. Do you think this law is a good idea?
    The federal government has forced Arizona's hand by being too lax on enforcement for far too long.
  • The water level of Lake Mead (the reservoir near Hoover Dam) has been steadily dropping in recent years. Should the Bureau of Reclamation regulate the use of this water more strictly?
    I'm very worried about the falling water levels in that area. If this continues, then we would eventually need to consider taking action.
  • Should the United States have been so quick to drop its support for Hosni Mubarak in 2011, given recent events in Egypt?
    We have allowed one of the last moderate regimes in the Middle East to be replaced by Muslim fundamentalists. This is an unconscionable betrayal of our ally Israel and will harm American security.
  • How long should U.S. troops remain in Afghanistan?
    I can't comment on that question without emboldening the enemy. I will consult with military leaders to determine our best course of action.
  • What is your position on gay marriage?
    I think civil unions are an acceptable compromise for the majority of mainstream Americans.
  • Is the United States too reliant on fossil fuels for its energy needs?
    Yes. We need to combine the use of these sources with further research into solar and wind power.
  • Do you support allowing the Bush Tax Cuts to expire for high-income households at the end of 2012?
    We should keep the tax cuts as is for the foreseeable future. I don't think it's sound economics to rise taxes on this group.
  • Overall, are you satisfied with the trade relationship between the U.S. and China?
    The U.S.-China relationship has destroyed middle class jobs for close to three decades. We need drastic changes including more protection for American manufacturing.
  • What do you think we should do next in regards to Social Security?
    With minor changes like an increase to the retirement age and means testing after a certain benefit level, we can ensure the solvency of this program long into the future.
  • Should middle school students learn about contraception in health class, or will this simply encourage them to experiment?
    I'm going to defer to local administrators on that question. That's not something the President should be involved with.
  • Should all private insurance plans be required to cover contraceptives and birth control?
    The government has no right to dictate coverage requirements to private insurers.
  • The Affordable Care Act (i.e. 'Obamacare') will cap annual premiums, require minimum coverage levels, and outlaw discrimination against people with pre-existing conditions. What do you think?
    This program will be a disaster. Not only is it an unconstitutional violation of personal freedom, but it will lead to a decline in American health care and will prove to be financially impossible to maintain without socializing the health care system.
  • Should the Social Security Trust Fund be purchasing U.S. Treasury bills? Should it be allowed to invest in other bonds and securities to potentially increase its rate of return? Or conversely, should the funds be held in a 'lockbox' to guarantee benefit payments?
    This is a corrupt, ludicrous practice which Congress uses to hide the true size of our budget and Social Security deficits.
  • How do you feel about capitalism and the free market?
    I am a firm proponent of the free market. We simply need effective regulation to make sure that the economy works as best as it possibly can.
  • What actions do you support to mitigate the effects of climate change?
    Even if climate change is real, it's impossible to determine how much of it results from human action. It's just as possible that the earth is warming of its own accord, and it makes no sense to disrupt our economy and potentially cause a depression until we have more information.
  • This morning you went to an elementary school and read books to a class of second-graders. How did you enjoy yourself?
    It's always refreshing to spend my morning in a classroom full of America's future leaders and inventors.
  • Is your campaign planning to allow Ron Paul a high-profile speaking slot at the Republican Convention, in light of the number of delegates that he commands?
    Give him a good slot. He was one of our most effective primary challengers after all. And I'll even throw a line into my nomination speech praising the zeal and efforts of his supporters.
  • Can you clear up any confusion with the Republican base about your beliefs on global warming?
    I would be glad to. Even if the earth is getting warmer, it's impossible to say that human activity is the main driver. We've had these fluctuations over and over again during the geological history of our planet.
  • What will be the overriding theme of your nomination speech at the Republican Convention?
    I will emphasize the point that the Republican Party has a big tent. We are the party for anyone who tries to work hard and get ahead in America.
  • What is your guiding foreign policy philosophy?
    Human Rights -- It's past time that we cut allegiances with dictators like the House of Saud and truly lived up to our ideals. I will only support or give aid to democratically elected leaders.
  • Do you have any plans to offer Sarah Palin a role in your Administration?
    I don't think that's something Sarah Palin would be interested in, to be honest.
  • In the most general terms, what will be your overall campaign strategy against Obama?
    I will reach out to moderates and conservative Democrats and attempt to build an all-encompassing coalition. It's time that America had a true leader in charge.
