- A wave of strikes and economic turmoil has led to bipartisan support for a new labor law. Do you support Truman's decision to veto the Taft-Hartley Act?I support Truman's veto. The National Labor Relations Act was put in place to protect the rights of labor, and it should be respected.
- The Jewish state of Israel is set to declare its independence on May 15, 1948. Do you support Truman's decision to recognize this new nation?I believe it was a hasty and impetuous move by the Truman Administration to support the creation of Israel. I have to come out against this measure.
- To what extent will you emphasize your support for civil rights legislation in New York as you hit the campaign trail?Not only will I speak about this issue, but I will use it to attack Truman. I've supported civil rights all along, while Truman seems to have come around at the 11th hour, and for transparent political gain.
- To what extent are you prepared to make anti-Communism an issue in this campaign, or to attack Harry Truman on the issue?If you'll remember my debate with Harold Stassen, I got this nomination in the first place by remaining above such type of politics.
- Do you have any comments to make on the Soviet blockade of Berlin, and the airlift in progress to resupply that city?We need to pull back from West Berlin and maintain a more realistic defense perimeter. We're more likely to be drawn into World War III than to gain anything useful from the defense of that exclave.
- What will be the main focus of your acceptance speech at the Republican Convention?Harry Truman is an ineffectual, vacillating, highly unpopular President. We need to hammer on this theme and remind the American people why they need a new leader in the White House.
- You are making a whistle-stop tour of the country to promote your candidacy. What region will you visit over the next two weeks?I'm going through the Plains and Mountain states. I could personally talk to a third of the voters in that region, as sparsely populated as it is.
- Your party has passed a fairly ambitious and liberal platform which you have supported. However, if the Republican Congress won't pass these laws now, how do you expect to push them forward as President?Just in the past 12 months, Congress has passed the Marshall Plan and Taft-Hartley with bipartisan support. They have passed an expansive farm bill, and will be considering housing legislation soon. I don't see why I couldn't work with this Congress.
- You are making a whistle-stop tour of the country to promote your candidacy. What region will you visit over the next two weeks?We're going to hit the Midwest, from Ohio to Wisconsin and Iowa.

- Before you head to New York to spend the election day, is there one last place you want to hit on the campaign trail?I'll spend the last day in California with my running mate, and then fly back to New York.
- What are your views on the expansion of Social Security?I support the expansion of benefits, which were set at fairly low levels during the 1930s and have been eaten up by our recent inflation.
- Would you support an act that would allocate federal funds for the construction of low-income housing?This is something that we badly need right now. We have a housing shortage in this country, and too many working-class Americans cannot afford a home.
- What are your views on a federal health insurance program?I support universal health care coverage in this country, financed by the federal government.
- Do you support the federal funding of primary education, and if so, in what form?I'm opposed to the provision of federal funds for primary education. It will inevitably lead to other forms of interference in what should be a state and local matter.
- In general, what is your view on the providing of foreign aid to American allies?This is a drain on American finances for a cause that threatens to entangle us in future wars, not of our making. I oppose the actions we have taken.
- What do you think about the proposed Constitutional Amendment to limit the President to two terms in office?There should not be a limit on how many terms a President can serve. This is why we have an election every four years -- to gauge the will of the American people.
- What are your views, in general, on the Marshall Plan?The Marshall Plan is provocative towards the Soviet Union, and is likely to lead to further aggression and escalation from them.
- Is the House Un-American Activities Committee going too far in its attempts to root out Communist influence, or should it be doing more?I'm not very comfortable with the activities of this committee, and I believe they should be scaled back to a minimum.
- How will you reduce the inflation rate, currently around 10% annually, if you are elected President?Corporations have been raising prices much faster than wages have increased, and they are pocketing exorbitant profits as a result. I will fight for the rights of labor, and for better regulation during my next term.
- What will you do to help resolve the severe housing shortage in this country?It has taken a couple of years after the end of the war, but I can already see that many new houses are being built by private developers to resolve this shortage, and I can only predict that this trend will continue without any special action by the government.
- How concerned are you about events in China? What would you do as President to support Chiang Kai-Shek?Publicly, of course, I support any ally of the United States. But Kai-Shek has proven himself to be a disappointment, if you really want to know the truth. I will be careful about making any statement or policy which would commit the U.S. to his further defense.
- Do you advocate the international control of nuclear weapons under the United Nations?I think this is a necessary expedient which we should implement immediately. It is important to set a precedent now, before other countries develop the bomb, that nuclear war will never again become state policy.
- What do you have to say about your announced running mate, John Bricker?John Bricker is a great man who represents my views for the future of this country. Now let's get going with this campaign.
