Answers:
- What is your opinion on the detention center at Guantanamo Bay? Would you consider closing it after the election?Absolutely not. I am 100% opposed to terrorism and will not take any measures that could threaten the security of the United States. Can you imagine if we released one of these people and they went on to participate in an attack against our soil?
- Some observers have argued that an embargo of Cuba makes little sense in a post Cold War environment. What do you think? Are you suggesting that after fifty years of putting pressure on the Communist regime, when we're now so close to restoring democracy to that island, that we suddenly give up and let Castro win?
- Should the Confederate flag be removed entirely from the South Carolina statehouse grounds? The good people of South Carolina have already worked out a compromise on this issue, and I don't see how it's useful for us today to revisit that.
- A recent Supreme Court decision affirmed an Arizona law allowing officers to check suspected illegal immigrants for proof of immigration status. Do you think this law is a good idea?I don't want to comment on an issue that is best left to the voters of Arizona.
- Should the federal government continue to finance newer companies that attempt to develop alternative energy resources, such as solar power and electric car manufacturers?Every day that we don't invest in solar power is a day that we fall further behind countries like China and Germany. Investment should be increased.
- Do you have an opinion on net neutrality? In limited cases, to ensure the smooth functioning of the net on the technical side, I would consider some restrictions. But entire websites should never be blocked to end users, as some have speculated.
- What is your position on gay marriage?Under no circumstances should the sacred institution of marriage be undermined. The Defense of Marriage Act was passed specifially to address this issue.
- Do you support allowing the Bush Tax Cuts to expire for high-income households at the end of 2012?Perhaps we can consider letting these expire at some point in the future, but for now we are mired in a stagnant economy and need to avoid tax increases.
- The United States has historically subsidized corn producers. With recent price increases in the corn market, do you still believe that such a program is necessary? This policy distorts the free market and favors certain types of food over others. It is an example of crony capitalism.
- What do you think we should do next in regards to Social Security? With minor changes like an increase to the retirement age and means testing after a certain benefit level, we can ensure the solvency of this program long into the future.
- What is your opinion on directing some Department of Education funding towards a school voucher program? This is a good idea and it should be expanded.
- Do you support increased restrictions on handgun ownership?Gun rights are protected by the Second Amendment. Furthermore, an armed citizenry is our best defense against crime and government tyranny.
- Should all private insurance plans be required to cover contraceptives and birth control? This is a violation of religious freedom. Many religious organizations and hospitals insure or care for individuals, and some of them have moral objections to birth control
- The Affordable Care Act (i.e. 'Obamacare') will cap annual premiums, require minimum coverage levels, and outlaw discrimination against people with pre-existing conditions. What do you think? This is the wrong way to reform the American health care system. We should be focusing on malpractice reform and on cutting red tape for private insurers.
- Would you support a Constitutional Amendment to overturn some provisions of the Citizens United ruling, affecting campaign finance by PAC's?Absolutely not. The right to disseminate one's political viewpoints freely is central to American democracy.
- Do you have any comment to make on the performance of Ben Bernanke as Chairman of the Federal Reserve?Ben Bernanke has been a disaster. The Fed's expansionist monetary policy caused this recession, and the continuance of that policy has delayed our recovery.
- Do you see any need for a United States Institute of Peace? Can you name a single thing this agency has done? This just another example of how federal money is wasted on arcane projects in a time of fiscal crisis.
- Would you consider a default on some U.S. debt obligations if the financial situation of the country continues to deteriorate? We need to consider all options. A controlled debt writedown just might be the best way to reignite the world economy, which is suffering from an abundance of bad debt at the current moment.
- The budget for the Department of Housing and Urban Development was cut by nearly $4 billion in 2012. Do you think subsidized housing for the poor is a good place to begin reducing the federal deficit?$4 billion barely puts a dent in the size of the deficit. If we made a serious attempt to cut the size of the military our savings would be vastly greater.
- What is your opinion on the Tea Party movement? The Tea Party is a positive, invigorating force in American politics. They are drawing badly needed attention to our government deficits.
- Are you satisfied with the provisions within the 2012 Federal Highway Bill that could salvage over two million jobs in the construction industry?Maybe we had our disagreements over the exact size and nature of this spending, but nobody seriously thinks that we should stop funding our highways.
- Should large banks like Chase, Citibank, and Bank of America be broken up to reduce the risk of another financial crisis? These banks would have never grown so large in the first place without colluding with the federal government. They only exist now because of a corrupt and possibly unconstitutional bailout.
- What will be the overriding theme of your nomination speech at the Republican Convention?I will hammer on the theme that Obama has completely failed the United States as President. He has presided over the largest deficit increases and highest unemployment rate in almost a hundred years.
- What is your guiding foreign policy philosophy?Pragmatism -- Our foreign policy right now is effective. We need to guide foreign nations towards democracy and open markets. Doing so will increase the world's prosperity and decrease the chance of future wars.
- In the most general terms, what will be your overall campaign strategy against Obama?I will reach out to moderates and conservative Democrats and attempt to build an all-encompassing coalition. It's time that America had a true leader in charge.
